Apple Mac Laptops

Over the past few years the rest of the world has been slowly discovering what iMac fans have known all along – Apple Mac Laptops are AWESOME machines.

Apple’s current line up of notebooks really does have something for everyone. And once people become familiar with the different choices they realize how much easy Macs are to shop for – compared to their PC counterparts.

Periodically, Apple will upgrade their offerings – but as it stands now, these are the models available to choose from -

The White MacBook

White MacBookThis is Apple’s most basic model, but in this instance low-end does not mean a lack of features. This choice is actually quite powerful and is the most affordable option as well. This computer offers an LED backlit 13.3 inch display, a core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of memory, a whopping 10 hour battery life, a glass trackpad, and a built in camera – among other things.

Like every other computer in Apple’s line this one also comes with Apple Mail, Safari, Address Book, iCal, iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand.

For home or student use – this will usually be more than enough power to handle all the typical tasks.

One thing that many people don’t realize is that Amazon.com also sells Apple products at small discount. Check out the White MacBook at Amazon.com here.

Ramping up any particular feature is easy at the online Apple Store – as these can also be custom ordered. But really, if you need more power than this – the best option might be to take a look at the MacBook Pro line.

Apple MacBook Pro

MacBook ProThe next item in the line up is a series of MacBook Pro models. These are distinguished from the MacBook by their aluminum casings.

The base model here sports a 13 inch screen, a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of SDRAM, a 10 hour battery, an 8x double layer SuperDrive for cd’s and dvd’s, and a 250GB hard drive. The included software is the same as with the white MacBook.

This computer can also be customized at the Apple Online Store.

Following suit are the 15 inch MacBook Pro and then the 17 inch model. Each respective option comes with a slightly higher capacity internal hard drive and options for a faster processor as well as other customizable upgrades.

Again, these models are also available at Amazon – find them here:

The MacBook Air

One criticism that Apple has endured is that they do not offer a netbook version of their popular machines. The 13 inch models come close but they are still larger and heavier than most Windows notebooks.

Apple’s answer to the netbook was to create an ultra light and ultra portable laptop – called the MacBook Air. This model has a 13.3 inch screen but weighs only 3 pounds. According to the commercials this is thin enough to slip into a manilla envelope. Of course, the sacrifice here is the optical drive. There is no cd or dvd player built in. In addition, there is only one usb port and the battery life is only 5 hours. IMHO – this option is great for frequent travelers or business people that are always on the road – but the lack of features might be frustrating to the average user.

If new Mac laptop computers just aren’t in the budget – then you may decide to go the route of a refurbished Mac laptop – here are some things to consider. And while this route may turn out well – I would be very leery of buying used mac laptops.
