Can the iPad Camera Connection Kit only handle image files?
According to the Apple computers website – this, unfortunately appears to be the case. And I quote
iPad and the Camera Connection Kit support standard photo formats, including JPEG and RAW
Many people have criticized the iPad for not having an SD card slot. Not only would this give the device more memory – but more importantly it would give the user an easy way to transfer files between his/her computer and the new Mac tablet.
As I was browsing the iPad accessories at the Apple online store I came across the iPad Camera Connection Kit. It looks like this:
Unfortunately I couldn’t grab a bigger image. But the gist is that one dongle has a 30 pin connector on one side and a sd card slot on the other side. The other dongle has a what appears to be a 30 pin connector on one side and a usb plug on the other for plugging in a digital camera.
This sd card slot thingy looks to be very promising – but alas, it seems that it is only for image files. According to the description – when the device is connected to the iPad Camera Connection kit the Photos app will open automatically.
Oh well.
So the bigger question is whether it makes more sense to get an iPad when the next generation rolls around (perhaps next year at this time – just speculation?) or give in to impulse and hop on down to Apple store ASAP?
What would you do?
