Good journal software for Mac is a bit difficult to find. I think this is because the range of expectations is very wide. After all, a journal is basically a book filled with blank pages – ready to take anything that a person wants to write.

Offline – this is a simple concept. But online users demand more. There are lots of different types of data and file types that people want to include in their journals. Some people want private journals and others want the world to read what they have to say. Some require security while other want to be able to access their notes from just about anywhere. The possibilities are endless.
And so developers of journal software for mac have their work cut out for them.
I have tried several different packages and have a few favorites of my own. My requirements are varied:
- I want to be able to access notes on my Apple computers and on my iPhone – sometimes
- I want my notes to be secure (not public), almost always
- I want to be able to share certain notes with people of my own choosing, sometimes
- I want my notes and entries to be easily searchable – always
- I want to be able to embed jpg’s and pdf’s into my notes – always
- I want the pdf’s to be searchable – definitely a plus
- Ease of use is very important
- I want to love the journaling program for Apple enough that I stick with it and use it on a regular basis (the key to the success of any program).
Two of my favorite programs are MacJournal and Evernote. I am guilty, like so many others, of not using the full potential of these different programs – because it takes time to learn them. This post gives me the opportunity to delve into the features and learn the programs inside and out. I will post my reviews as I learn more.
What programs have you tried and loved (or hated)?
