Yesterday Picnik.com announced that they were closing their doors on April 19, 2012.
Many dedicated fans are shocked and dismayed.
And they are looking – looking for Picnik alternatives.
In my post about Picnik closing, I pointed out that Mac users have a bunch of options when it comes to photo editing software.
But what if you want an online option that is free?
Well, today Gayla – on her wonderful work at home resource site – pointed me to another service called FotoFlexer.com.
This site has a very Picnik-like look and feel. And it has lots of tools for decking out your photos.
But one feature that I like – that I can’t find there is drop shadows, along with bevels and glows.

I am sure as the site develops and as they pick up all of Picnik’s old customers they will add more tools.
Tell us – what are your future plans for photo editing now that Picnik.com is closing their doors?

With a drop shadow option not being available there – I think an alternate for this would be to prepare your image in FotoFlexer then use Windows Live Writer to compose the post, insert the image and choose the drop shadow option there. I do all my blogging with Windows Live Writer – http://bit.ly/usUZfV so it’s not that far of a stretch for me.
Then again, I’m the person who will drive 4 blocks out of her way just to cross traffic at a light with less risk
Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the links. Much appreciated
If you find a better option for image editing, do let me know.
Since I work on a Mac – I was not familiar with Windows Live Writer. I wish we had something like this!
There are definitely other programs to use on a Mac – but it just adds in one extra step.
And thank you – for introducing me to FotoFlexer – I like what I see there.
Can I add text on Fotoflexer as i could with Picnik?
Paul,
In testing out FotoFlexer I have been pretty impressed with the text options. I think it’s almost easier than PicniK. If you head over to their site – they have some sample images you can work with – so you don’t even need to upload one of your own to test it out.
Let us know what you think.
Hi there,
I see that you’re searching for a photo editor replacement. I’m part of a small group of ex-Picnikers who are building a new photo-editor that will serve as a great replacement for your old fave Picnik! I know this is a little out left field but we wanted to give some of our most avid fans a sneak peek…
Sign up on our site http://www.PicMonkey.com and we’ll keep you updated on a launch date. Also, feel free to send me your feedback, feature requests, and, of course, any questions you have!
Regards,
Jenn
Hi Jenn,
I just gave PicMonkey a go. It was easy, fast and I am really happy with it. Will we be able to upload to/from flickr at any point? This is the only down side for me.
Thanks for a great new photo editor!

I am not impressed with fotoflexer. It is easy to use, and does have a lot of options, but I can’t seem to alter the size of my finished, saved image when I save it to flickr – they come out so small. I’ll keep looking. So cranky at google-smoogle for closing down picnic, it was awesome!
